I can do this!

As we moved into September most people around me were lamenting how fast this year has flown by. I’m looking at it from a different point of view – there’s still a quarter of the year left to go, what can I achieve in that time? What goals can I meet in the space of 4 months?

I made a resolution on my birthday (in May) to lose weight. My story isn’t unique – I’m 40, still carrying some baby weight from a few years ago and I’m not making a serious effort to shift that weight. I’ve loosely stuck to my resolution and I’ve managed to lose a stone but I still have a way to go to get to my “healthy” weight.
So here I am, with 4 months left of 2018 and I’ve made a plan. I’m a lady on a mission and it’s an achievable one. According to everything I’ve read, anything up to 2lbs a week weight loss is acceptable and likely to stay off long term. As my 4 year old says, “I can do this!”
So what’s my plan?
Step 1 – kickstart the weight loss with Sugarfree September.
There are various versions of going sugarfree, some of which are very strict and involve cutting out ALL types of sugar – natural and refined. This is definitely not the way forward for me. My plan consists of giving up sweets, chocolates, biscuits and cakes. I’m getting rid of refined sugar and also sweetener. All I can say at this point is “heaven help me”.
Step 2 – exercise, exercise, exercise
In a moment of madness I signed myself up to join a local netball team. What was I thinking? I haven’t played netball since the mid 90’s and I am severely unfit. Nevertheless, after a 6 week refresher course, I will be part of a team – playing netball every week and taking part in competitions. If I can go to a French class once a week (which I did for well over a year) then I can surely commit to this for 90 mins a week.
With this and a few lunch time walks maybe I can actually win a Fitbit challenge once in a while.
So there you have it.  My two step plan to make the most of the last quarter of the year and reach my goal weight by 31 December 2018.
How will you make the most of the final months of this year? Leave a comment below to let me know (then hop over to my other blog posts have a bit of a nose).
