SBM Mentors came about in August 2019, launched on Twitter, as a way to match SBMs up to be mentored. A long line of practising SBMs stepped forward with a wealth of experience ready to do their bit to support colleagues and strengthen the profession. They came from all phases and sectors with plenty of knowledge to share.
A number of SBMs and aspiring SBMs signed up to receive support and before long email addresses were exchanged and plans put in place for support and guidance.
In order to succession plan and develops careers mentoring and coaching can add so much value. The ISBL workforce survey carried out in late 2019 showed that very few business managers are engaging in mentoring activities. SBM Mentors is seeking to redress that by matching as many pairs as possible. In the first week of running over 20 pairs had been matched. Not all have been a success but they have come back and been matched with someone different.
